Van Ryn’s was established in 1845 by Jan Van Ryn. The Stellenbosch distillery was built in 1905 using stone from the Eerste River. This building is still in use today. Brandy is made from Chenin Blanc and colonbar grapes. These are then crushed and allowed to ferment in to a crisp wine. This wine is then pot-stilled twice and then allowed to age in French oak barrels holding 340litres. Each barrel is hand made by the coopers on site. Every year 3% of the liquid is lost due to evaporation; this is known as “Angel’s Share”. For more information go to
